McFatty Monday..2 pound GAIN

My name is Stephanie and I'm a food addict. I need to do more research, but I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to food. I use it as a stress reliever, as something to do when I'm bored, as a social activity, etc.

I know how to lose weight, I know most of the tips and tricks, I've done them all in the past..and I've been successful. For some reason, I have just lost my motivation lately. I seem to feel a weight lifted off my shoulders when I allow myself to eat what I want (or not exercise). I feel a sense of calm..which is replaced by dread when I'm about to step on the scale in the morning.

I need tips on finding my willpower. Any suggested books (though I've read a few on the topic)?

Current weight: 194.4
Weight GAINED this week: 2 pounds

Just so you know, I have been totally lacking motivation for the past few days. I have been eating everything I want and a lot of it. I'm hoping to be back on track today. I just got a couple of magazines in the mail so I'm going to do the old trick and cut out a picture of someone I want to look like and tape it to my fridge. This way I will look at it and MAYBE it will help me make healthier choices. I feel you with food making you calm and enjoying it. I am the exact same way. I've always used food as a comfort. It is hard breaking old habits. Good luck this week!

I am right there with you! I've gained 15 lbs since we stopped running a few months ago. Bleh. I'm trying to log calories because then I feel guilty and quit eating. :-/ it's just so freaking hot! I want to walk during lunch, but it's way too hot now. This week, I'm trying to pack more healthy snacks since I'm such a snacker...raw veggies and trail mix for me! Anyway, I fell ya! You can do it though!

hey sweets.

as i was reading your post i looked over at my bookshelf and noticed the number of diet and workout books i have. i haven't read most of them, but they all got me somewhat motivated at the time of purchase. you encouraged me to go through a few and choose one to read.

i've read Body for Life by biill phillips and have the Eating for Life cookbook to supplement it. it's a good program, that i've had plans many times to follow, with no avail. i also have Transformation by the same author.

another book is The Spark by chris downie, the founder of sparkpeople. i just started reading that one after reading your post.

both Transformation and The Spark focus on changing your lifestyle by setting goals and teaching you how to go about obtaining those goals, rather than eat this, not that and do this, not that.

what do you think about doing a little online bookclub? jillian michaels just came out with a book, Unlimited, which i believe has the same idea - starting from the inside out.

our problem, and i include everyone who comments on our weekly weigh-ins with struggles of their own, is that we have convinced ourselves for whatever reason that we are not deserving of the healthy lifestyle which then leads to the pretty exterior the world judges us by. we are more focused on what the scale tells us every week rather than our overall goal of being healthy and happy.

what do you think? i'll ask amber if she'd like to participate too. . .

we'll figure this out, together, with support!!
